As we grow, we remain deeply rooted in our shared love for this place and our responsibility to take care of it.
Together, we can shape Scarborough to be resilient, responsible, and ready for a future shaped by climate change and extreme weather events.

The Town of Scarborough already has efforts underway to make our community and natural environment ready and resilient to climate change. Our 30x30 initiative aims to conserve 30% of land in Scarborough by 2030, a goal we’re close to achieving. With our electric vehicle charging ordinance, we are working to increase public access to EV chargers to support the transition to clean vehicles.

What We Are Focused On
Our plan is centered around five focus areas:
- Clean Energy & Efficient Buildings – Scarborough’s buildings run on clean energy sources and are designed to promote energy efficiency.
- Thriving Natural & Coastal Resources – Scarborough’s forests, natural areas, waterways, and coastline are resilient to the impacts of climate change.
- Sustainable Operations & Waste Management – Scarborough embraces responsible waste disposal and efficient Town operations that minimize environmental impacts.
- Smart Land Use & Transportation – Scarborough grows in a balanced way with safe, reliable transportation options.
- Resilient & Healthy Community – Scarborough understands climate risks and ensures the entire community is ready to respond.
Our Timeline
With stakeholder guidance and feedback, the Sustaining Scarborough Climate Action Plan is scheduled to be completed by September 2026.

From recreational opportunities to strong schools, our community has a lot to offer. Now, it’s time for us to work together to keep our neighborhoods safe, our air and water clean, and to make sure future generations can enjoy the quality of life Scarborough is known for. With your efforts and participation, we can shape Scarborough to be a resilient, responsible, and ready model for community action.
